Ann Harrison is a lawyer specializing in commercial contracts, copyright and employment work. She is director and owner of Harrisons Entertainment Law Limited, a legal consultancy, which she set up in May 2003. Before that she was equity partner at the London law firm, Harbottle & Lewis where she worked for 17 years rising to be head of the Music Group there. Ann specializes in advising artists and songwriters, as well as independent record labels, publishers and artist managers and agents on their contracts and the commercial terms of their deals. She has also branched out into advising television production companies and negotiating employment contracts for music industry executives. Ann’s clients range from household names to those making their first demos and cover all genres of music. She has also been called upon to provide specialist reports for clients as diverse as Yahoo and the World Wildlife Fund. Ann is the author of “Music: The Business” first published by Virgin Publishing in 2000 and she is in the process of writing the 5th edition for publication in May 2011.  Virgin is now part of the international publishing group, Random House. The book was originally commissioned to fill a gap in the marketplace for a straightforward guide to the law and the practice behind the music business and has become the lead text on most media courses in the UK.  Ann was visiting New Zealand when she was finalising the first edition and has fond memories of sitting on the deck near the lake in Queenstown, tapping away at the laptop whilst the rest of her party went bungy jumping.
