Adam Barker is Director of Business Affairs at Universal Music UK, the UK’s leading music company and home to successful artists from across the musical spectrum including The Rolling Stones, U2, Florence + The Machine, Mumford & Sons, Take That, Elbow, Emeli Sandé, Lana Del Rey and 2014’s biggest breakthrough artist, Sam Smith. It also releases the music of global superstars such as Taylor Swift, Rihanna and Eminem as well as repertoire from Decca, the number one classical label in the world. Adam oversees the business affairs of all divisions of Universal Music UK including the labels Island, Polydor, Capitol, Decca and Virgin EMI alongside the world’s most famous recording studios, Abbey Road. Adam joined Universal Music in 2003 from Ministry of Sound where he had been Commercial Director for three years. Before stepping up to his current role in July 2011, Adam was Senior Director working across Commercial Media Partnerships, Globe TV and Universal Music Strategic Marketing. He had previously spent seven years as part of the senior management team at Universal Music label Mercury Records. During his role at Universal Music UK, Adam has negotiated deals with artists including Metallica, U2 and Sir Elton John. In 2011 Adam became a member of the BPI Council. Adam is Chairman of the trustees of the EMI Music Sound Foundation, an independent music education charity, established in 1997 to celebrate the centenary of EMI Records and to improve young peoples' access to music education in the UK & Ireland.
