Music Cork Showcase – First Artists Announced

Music Cork are delighted to announce the first three artists performing at the artist showcases on Thursday May 11th. These artists will perform as part of the Nialler9 curated showcase at Cyprus Avenue. More artists will be announced shortly.

Born and raised in Mount Oval, Ireland, Lyra’s musical introduction took place the age of six, singing at her local church. Noticing her enthusiasm for music, her elder sister began teaching her harmonies and songs to perform at home for her family. It wasn’t long before she decided to take up the drums, including the traditional Irish ‘bodhran’ drum, a signature sound prevalent in her music today.

Influenced by the likes of Kate Bush, Lykke Li and Bat for Lashes, Lyra has spent the past year honing her sound, writing with the likes of Alx Reuterskiöld (Tove Lo, Icona Pop), Alex Davies (Frances, Benjamin Francis Leftwich) and Phil Cook (Birdy).
July 2016 saw Lyra release her debut EP, W.I.LD, with lush production courtesy of Rupert Christie (Kate Bush, Coldplay, Aurora, Say Lou Lou).  From this EP, ‘Emerald’, was synced in MTV’S ‘Teen Wolf’ and featured in RTE’s new drama, Striking Out in January 2017, causing a huge stir online, subsequently reached of #2 in the Shazam Chart. January 2017 also saw the fourth track from the EP, ‘Whitelady’, featured in E! Entertainments ‘The Royals’.
Following her debut homeland shows in Ireland and two sold out shows in London, 2017 is set to be a very exciting year in the land of Lyra – with brand new music on the way and more live shows – watch out!

Le Booms energetic live performances have attracted media attention in the US and Ireland. The electro-indie-house-pop duo formed in Ireland in June 2016 and have played shows in New York(tour), Iceland(Airwaves) and to their ever growing following at home in Ireland.
